Beam, fairway room and haul-out geometry often narrow the catamaran shortlist before length does. Ask for a berth-specific answer.

01 / THE METHOD

Lead with beam and full length

Give the marina your maximum beam and length overall including davits, tender, bowsprit and anchors. A catamaran may fit the marina’s stated length limit but not its standard pens. Ask whether the offer is a dedicated multihull berth, alongside space or another arrangement, and whether fenders and access work on both hulls.

02 / THE METHOD

Check the route to the pen

Confirm fairway width, turning room, crosswind exposure and the marina’s preferred arrival technique. A wide boat may have little margin between neighbouring vessels even when the berth itself is adequate. Ask whether assistance is available and whether a particular tide or wind direction is recommended.

03 / THE METHOD

Plan maintenance before it is urgent

If you may need a haul-out, check travel-lift beam, sling arrangement, hardstand cradle and yard access. Some wet berths welcome multihulls while the nearby yard cannot lift them. Get a written answer based on your displacement and hull spacing.

04 / THE METHOD

Price the actual footprint

Multihull tariffs may use length, beam, berth type or a multiplier. Request the complete price for your dates and boat, including power and any premium for alongside or double-width space. Compare the usable offer rather than a monohull headline rate.

Questions about catamaran marina berths

  • What exact berth arrangement fits my maximum beam?
  • Is there enough fairway and turning room in typical winds?
  • Can the yard lift my weight and hull spacing?
  • How is the multihull tariff calculated?
SKIPPER’S NOTE

Record berth-specific answers and source dates

A blank field is useful when it becomes a precise question. Record who answered, when they answered and whether the reply applies to the exact berth, vessel and dates.

Verify before acting.

These questions support a shortlist, not a berth guarantee or navigation plan. Advice can be wrong; consult current official information and the site disclaimer.
