FOUNDER / PUBLISHER

Machuret

I’m Gabriel, the creator of Find Marinas Australia and YouSail.

I build websites around the life I want to live. When I worked as a diving instructor, I built diving websites. Now it’s sailing.

From search to sailing

My background is marketing. I’ve spent more than a decade in SEO and app store optimisation, and I was one of the first people to treat ASO as its own discipline. In 2013 I launched an early ASO course on Udemy, then wrote ASO Bible and ASO Ninja. More than 10,000 students have been through my courses.

Along the way I ran a marketing agency and worked with companies including Red Bull, Disney, EA Games, FreshBooks, PBS and Xerox. I’ve helped more than 500 developers and app companies get found, and spoken at conferences in London, Singapore, China and Thailand. I also bought Appmind, an ASO company later acquired by MobileAction, where I continued as a consultant and ambassador.

Not everything I write is about marketing. Zero Excuses is my book about living a beautiful life. The Lazy Bastard is a productivity guide for procrastinators.

The question behind Find Marinas

My partner Kristy and I are working towards buying a yacht, moving aboard and sailing Australia and the Pacific. Plan a life aboard and one question appears quickly: where do you keep the boat?

The answers were spread across hundreds of marina websites, forums and social groups. So I did what I know how to do: collected the information, organised it and made it easier to explore. That became Find Marinas Australia.

The site sits alongside our wider sailing network, covering schools, courses, clubs, charters and other parts of the journey. The aim is not to make decisions for boat owners. It is to help people ask better questions, find the original source and create a more informed shortlist.

A NOTE FROM GABRIEL

What I know—and what I don’t.

I’m not an expert sailor, and I haven’t tied up at every marina in Australia. What I’m good at is finding information, structuring it and making it useful. The most valuable marina knowledge comes from the people who run them, which is why we use YouSail’s records, interview marina teams directly and invite corrections.

Moving aboard means running out of excuses

That’s the personal story behind this project. We’re still learning, taking courses, spending time on boats and asking plenty of questions. Find Marinas is part directory, part field notebook for that journey—and I hope it makes your own planning a little clearer.
